DC Market Launch Campaign

Taking a NYC Italian institution and giving it a premium, credible entrance into a new city.

The Problem

Café Fiorello was opening its first DC location, but arriving in a market where it had no existing footprint. The brand's strengths, a proven NYC track record, backing from the Fireman Hospitality Group, and consistent branding, didn't automatically translate to local trust.

Two established competitors, Il Piatto and Olio e Più, already owned upscale/rustic Italian dining in the city, and Café Fiorello had limited reach or understanding of DC's dining landscape.

The challenge: build brand awareness and a premium, classic positioning from zero, before the doors even opened.

Strengths

  • Proven Success & Established Brand in NYC

  • Infrastructure provided by being a part of the Fireman Hospitality Group

  • Consistent branding across menu, space, and digital

Weaknesses

  • Less established in DC than Il Piatto and Olio e Più

  • Limited brand reach and understanding of DC’s landscape

Opportunities

  • Demand for story-driven, authentic dining

  • Collaborations with influencers

  • Strong social media presence with daily touch-points

  • Community-focused events

Threats

  • Il Piatto: Upscale, central DC presence

  • Olio e Più: Established rustic aesthetic and loyal base

  • Rising competition and operating costs

Digital Marketing Strategy

The strategy targeted three distinct DC audience segments, matching each to the channels where they actually spend time.

  • Young professionals 25–35

    • Instagram and influencer content

  • Established professionals 35–45

    • Mix of Instagram and Facebook

  • Senior professionals 45–55+

    • Facebook, email, and SEO

Based on that, 3 core campaign pillars were created:

Influencer-led social buzz

Partner with 15 local DC food/lifestyle influencers (2K–300K followers) for cross-posted UGC, anchored by a VIP Happy Hour launch event.
